Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based, non-pathologizing mental health practice that enhances emotional, social and spiritual well-being. It is increasingly used in the treatment of trauma, anxiety and depression.

Most of us are well acquainted with internal conflict. We may feel torn and overwhelmed by decisions about our career or family. We may feel exhausted by hopeless battles to break pesky bad habits, whether in our daily routines or in the ways we interact with others.

"Do I contradict myself?

Very well then I contradict myself,

(I am large, I contain multitudes.)"

     - Walt Whitman, Song of Myself

A brief video introduction to IFS

Internal Family Systems therapy is an internal process that enables us to live life freely and deliberately. By releasing ourselves from the burdens of distorted beliefs, anxiety, and discouragement, we emerge peaceful and empowered. IFS frees us to walk with the natural honesty, hope and courage of the human heart. From this point of illumination, we come to see the positive intention held by each part of ourselves, even those that seemed counterproductive, dangerous, or impossibly conflicted. We can thereby better partake of our diverse inner gifts. IFS never asks us to stifle or force change upon our internal thoughts and tendencies, nor upon those of other people. Rather, this gentle process allows our parts organically to shift, sprout, and blossom, in the soil of life's sorrows, joys, and mysteries. Aided by the heart-centered presence of an IFS practitioner, we will experience growth, reconciliation, and liberation both internally and in our relationships.
